What doesn’t kill me will make me stronger? End of week 1 training

Sunday marks the end of the first week of my getting into shape, 6 week training plan.

Workout Summary:
Sunday: Ran 10km at gym
3 hours curling
Monday: 45 min boot camp
Tuesday: Ran 7km at gym
Wednesday: Rest!
Thursday: 45 min boot camp
Friday: Ran 5km outside
Saturday: 45 min boot camp
Sunday: Ran 7km outside
30 min restorative yoga
3 hours curling

All in all it is going well. I am a bit sore but the yoga today helped. My dog Loki really enjoyed the run today too. He was tired at the end – he is out of shape too! He use to run circles around me.

The boot camps that I am going to is part of the Vitality Fitness 50 Day Challenge. http://www.vitalityfitnesscalgary.com/ After signing up you get 50 days of access to their classes, meal plans, off day training workouts etc. They also do goal tracking and measurements over the 50 days. As one of the first 60 people who registered we (my sister and I) got a cooking class. The class was hosted at Sunterra by Chef Michael Christen (http://www.appetite4life.ca/) who is a Chef at Sunterra but also does Health Coaching around food and eating. The class was interesting, he focused on how to keep food healthy while not eating the same thing all the time or food without flavour. There was quite a mix of people in the class, definitely some non-cooks, but I think it is safe to say everyone learned something to take away. My only criticism of the class was the menu, every single dish except dessert had shellfish in it. My sister is allergic to shellfish, so couldn’t eat anything. Also, some people just don’t like it, I think making a whole menu around shellfish is pretty silly.  Here are the dishes we prepared:

Lobster and Quinoa Risotto
Seafood Tacos with avocado and lime
Fresh Clams with chiorzo, pepper and potatoes
Zesty Shimp and Lemon Risotto with Asparagus
Chocolate Risotto Pudding

The Community Table at Sunterra though is really nice. It can be rented for private functions and corporate events. It would be a really nice place to host an event!
